Doctrine and Covenants 33: 12-18; Helaman 5: 12

What truths can help you remain faithful to the Savior?

"12 Behold, verily, verily, I say unto you, this is my gospel; and remember that they shall have faith in me or they can in nowise be saved;

13 And upon this rock I will build my church; yea, upon this rock ye are built, and if ye continue, the gates of hell shall not prevail against you.

14 And ye shall remember the church articles and covenants to keep them.

15 And whoso having faith you shall confirm in my church, by the laying on of the hands, and I will bestow the gift of the Holy Ghost upon them.

16 And the Book of Mormon and the holy scriptures are given of me for your instruction; and the power of my Spirit quickeneth all things.

17 Wherefore, be faithful, praying always, having your lamps trimmed and burning, and oil with you, that you may be ready at the coming of the Bridegroom

18 For behold, verily, verily, I say unto you, that I come quickly. Even so. Amen." (Doctrine and Covenants 33: 12-18)

"12 And now, my sons, remember, remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his mighty storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation, a foundation whereon if men build they cannot fall." (Helaman 5: 12)

And here's the commentary entitled: "If I build my life on the Savior’s gospel, I will not fall." :

"Doctrine and Covenants 33 was addressed to Northrop Sweet and Ezra Thayer, two new members of the Church. Northrop left the Church soon after this revelation was given. Ezra served faithfully for some time, but he also eventually fell away. Reading about them in this section might prompt you to consider how firmly you are built “upon [the] rock” (verse 13) of the gospel. What truths in these verses can help you remain faithful to the Savior?

See also Helaman 5:12."

Here are the truths in the verses of Doctrine and Covenants 33 that can help me remain faithful to the Savior:

  • The gospel is the Lord's
  • Remember that I shall have faith in the Savior or I can in nowise be saved
  • I am built upon the rock (Jesus Christ) just as His Church is built upon this rock, and if I continue the gates of hell shall not prevail against me
  • Remember the Church articles and covenants to keep them
  • The Book of Mormon and the holy scriptures are given for my instruction
  • The power of the Lord's Spirit quickeneth all things
  • Having my lamp trimmed and burning, and oil (Being faithful, Praying always) with me, that I may be ready at the coming of the Bridegroom
I will truly not fall if I build my life on the Savior's gospel. My foundation is the strongest when it's built upon the rock, my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Whatever trials in my life come (mighty winds, whirlwinds, hails, and mighty storms), they shall have no power over me to drag me down to misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which I am built, a sure foundation. My own house's foundation is built on a rock, not on sand. That's keeping my house strong. The connection between my own house and the rock, the foundation, is keeping my house standing whatever storms come.
