Exodus 15:23–27; 1 Nephi 2:11–12

How has the Lord made bitter things in your life sweet? What value have these experiences had in your life? What do you learn from the Israelites’ experiences that can help you murmur less and trust God more?

"23 ¶ And when they came to Marah, they could not drink of the waters of Marah, for they were bitter: therefore the name of it was called Marah.

24 And the people murmured against Moses, saying, What shall we drink?

25 And he cried unto the Lord; and the Lord shewed him a tree, which when he had cast into the waters, the waters were made sweet: there he made for them a statute and an ordinance, and there he proved them,

26 And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the Lord thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the Lord that healeth thee.

27 ¶ And they came to Elim, where were twelve wells of water, and threescore and ten palm trees: and they encamped there by the waters." (Exodus 15:23–27)

"11 Now this he spake because of the stiffneckedness of Laman and Lemuel; for behold they did murmur in many things against their father, because he was a visionary man, and had led them out of the land of Jerusalem, to leave the land of their inheritance, and their gold, and their silver, and their precious things, to perish in the wilderness. And this they said he had done because of the foolish imaginations of his heart.

12 And thus Laman and Lemuel, being the eldest, did murmur against their father. And they did murmur because they knew not the dealings of that God who had created them." (1 Nephi 2:11–12)

And here's the commentary entitled: "The Lord can make bitter things sweet." :

"Reading about Israel’s journey might lead you to think about things in your life that have seemed “bitter” like the waters of Marah (see Exodus 15:23–27). How has the Lord made bitter things in your life sweet? What value have these experiences had in your life?

You’ll notice more examples of bitter experiences for the Israelites in Exodus 16 and 17. It’s tempting to be critical of their murmuring or complaining, but as you read, consider whether you have ever done the same thing. What do you learn from the Israelites’ experiences that can help you murmur less and trust God more? What do these verses teach you about God?

See also 1 Nephi 2:11–12."

One example of how the Lord has made bitter things in my life sweet is allowing me to go through a lot of heartaches, getting my heart broken many times, and yet transforming me into my better version because of those heartbreaks, so that I became the right person, and eventually attracted and married the right person for me to marry. I'm now building my coaching business to be able to help women who desire to get married, and yet their disappointments in their past relationships are holding them back. Through coaching these women, I am helping to build the right families for the children who are being born here on earth. When more women are able to attract and marry the right person for them, babies can grow in families where they are treated as they are supposed to, so they are able to thrive and reach their full potential.
