How do you feel when you still won't get the result that you wanted after doing all you can?
"40 And the awild fruit of the last had overcome that part of the tree which brought forth good fruit, even that the branch had withered away and died.
41 And it came to pass that the Lord of the vineyard wept, and said unto the servant: aWhat could I have done more for my vineyard?" (Jacob 5: 40-41)
"46 And now, behold, notwithstanding all the care which we have taken of my vineyard, the trees thereof have become corrupted, that they bring forth no good afruit; and these I had hoped to preserve, to have laid up fruit thereof against the season, unto mine own self. But, behold, they have become like unto the wild olive tree, and they are of no worth but to be bhewn down and cast into the fire; and it grieveth me that I should lose them.
47 But awhat could I have done more in my vineyard? Have I slackened mine hand, that I have not nourished it? Nay, I have nourished it, and I have digged about it, and I have pruned it, and I have dunged it; and I have bstretched forth mine chand almost all the day long, and the dend draweth nigh. And it grieveth me that I should hew down all the trees of my vineyard, and cast them into the fire that they should be burned. Who is it that has corrupted my vineyard?" (Jacob 5: 46-47)
And here's the continuation of the commentary entitled, "Jesus Christ is the Lord of the Vineyard":
"Even though Jacob 5 teaches about nations and centuries of world history, it’s also about you and your life. What messages do you find for yourself in Jacob 5?
Perhaps most important, Jacob 5 is about Jesus Christ. Look for Him as you read. What do you learn about Him, for example, in verses 40–41, 46–47?"
We all have the tendency to give in to temptations and to allow our weaknesses to overcome our strengths just as "the wild fruit of the last tree had overcome that part of the tree which brought forth good fruit. The Lord has been doing everything for us--has been giving us all the care that we need and yet, despite all that he's been doing, just as "the trees of the vineyard have become corrupted, that they bring forth no good fruit...and had become like unto a wild olive tree," still we tend to choose to follow the one who has corrupted the Lord's vineyard rather than to follow the Lord.
The Lord is mindful of each one of us. He cares for you and for me. He paid the price for our sins because we are so important to him. He wants us to reach our full potential because it brings him joy when we fulfill our purpose in this life and eventually achieve our ultimate goal of eternal life. It brings him so much sorrow when we are not able to reach our full potential and choose to settle in a lot lower level, even the opposite of the result that the Lord wants us to achieve.
