How has learning about how God moved in the lives of the people in the past helped you to also see Him in your life?
"105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
140 Thy word is very pure: therefore thy servant loveth it."
And here's the introductory commentary for this week(the first week of January and the year 2026)'s reading assignment: "December 29–January 4: The First Testament of Jesus Christ Introduction to the Old Testament" :
"When you consider studying the Old Testament this year, how do you feel? Eager? Uncertain? Afraid? All of these emotions are understandable. The Old Testament is one of the oldest collections of writings in the world, and this can make it both exciting and intimidating. These writings come from an ancient culture that can seem foreign and sometimes strange or even uncomfortable. And yet in these writings we see people having experiences that seem familiar. We recognize gospel themes that witness of the divinity of Jesus Christ and His gospel. Yes, people like Abraham, Sarah, Hannah, and Daniel lived lives that, in some ways, were very different from ours. But they also experienced family joy and family discord, moments of faith and moments of uncertainty, and successes and failures—like all of us do. More important, they exercised faith, repented, made covenants, had spiritual experiences, and never gave up on the promise of a Savior. As we learn how God moved in their lives, we also see Him in ours, and we say with the psalmist: “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. … Therefore thy servant loveth it” (Psalm 119:105, 140)."
This morning, my husband did his scripture reading again, first thing in the morning, just as he would every single day without fail. I'm so grateful for my husband's example of consistency in doing his scripture study. I've been striving to follow his example, and writing and sharing what I'm learning through this blog has been helping me to be more consistent myself. And yet when I get really busy I have the tendency to set aside my scripture reading, just like yesterday--there was a report I was working on which was taking so much time. I wanted to get it done and submit yesterday, but it wasn't done yet when it's already bedtime, so I decided to complete and submit it this morning. And I was working on it all day yesterday until almost bedtime, I wasn't able to take the time to do my scripture study. I was supposed to do my scripture study first thing in the morning, right after my morning prayer. And because of the project that I started working on in August, it's a challenge for me to be consistent with my daily scripture study. And yet, I feel a lot better when I am able to follow my husband's example of daily scripture study. So, I'm doing my best to get back to my early morning scripture study daily, starting tomorrow.
I'm eager to study the Old Testament this year. I want to learn again how God moved in the lives of those people mentioned in the first testament of Jesus Christ. I know I can see how God moves in my life more as I learn more about how He did so among the people in the past.
