What difference does it make when you are able to "hold up" the light of Jesus Christ not just sometimes but always?
"22 And behold, ye shall meet together oft; and ye shall not forbid any man from coming unto you when ye shall meet together, but suffer them that they may come unto you and forbid them not;
23 But ye shall pray for them, and shall not cast them out; and if it so be that they come unto you oft ye shall pray for them unto the Father, in my name.
24 Therefore, hold up your light that it may shine unto the world. Behold I am the light which ye shall hold up—that which ye have seen me do. Behold ye see that I have prayed unto the Father, and ye all have witnessed.
25 And ye see that I have commanded that none of you should go away, but rather have commanded that ye should come unto me, that ye might feel and see; even so shall ye do unto the world; and whosoever breaketh this commandment suffereth himself to be led into temptation." (3 Nephi 18: 22-25)
And here's the commentary entitled: "I can “hold up” the light of Jesus Christ." :
"Suppose you had a friend who knew nothing about Jesus Christ except that you are one of His followers. What would your friend conclude about Him, based on your actions? What does it mean to you to “hold up your light that it may shine unto the world”? (3 Nephi 18:24). What other invitations did the Savior give in 3 Nephi 18:22–25 that help you hold up that light?
See also Bonnie H. Cordon, “That They May See,” Ensign or Liahona, May 2020, 78–80."
Based on my actions, my friend who knew nothing about Jesus Christ would conclude that my Lord Jesus Christ is joyful because I am able to find joy in whatever circumstance I find myself in as I look to Jesus Christ.
For me to "hold up your light that it may shine unto the world" means having the story of my life being played as a movie in a super huge movie screen being held up so high that people everywhere in the world could watch, and my life is reflecting the life of Jesus Christ.
Other invitations the Savior did give in 3 Nephi 18:22–25 that help me hold up that light are:
1. Meet together oft
2. Not forbid any man from coming unto you when ye shall meet together, but suffer them that they may come unto you and forbid them not
3. None of you should go away
4. Come unto me, that ye might feel and see
5. Even so shall ye do unto the world
Jesus Christ welcomes everyone to come unto Him. I'm a work in progress and welcoming everyone in its full sense is something I'm still working on. As I continue to look to the Lord, He will help me to rise above this challenge because I have the faith that I can do all things through Christ.
