What difference does it make for future generations if you are recording the important events as they are happening in your life or the spiritual things you are experiencing?
"6 And now it came to pass that when Jesus had said these words he said unto them again, after he had expounded all the scriptures unto them which they had received, he said unto them: Behold, other scriptures I would that ye should write, that ye have not.
7 And it came to pass that he said unto Nephi: Bring forth the record which ye have kept.
8 And when Nephi had brought forth the records, and laid them before him, he cast his eyes upon them and said:
9 Verily I say unto you, I commanded my servant Samuel, the Lamanite, that he should testify unto this people, that at the day that the Father should glorify his name in me that there were many saints who should arise from the dead, and should appear unto many, and should minister unto them. And he said unto them: Was it not so?
10 And his disciples answered him and said: Yea, Lord, Samuel did prophesy according to thy words, and they were all fulfilled.
11 And Jesus said unto them: How be it that ye have not written this thing, that many saints did arise and appear unto many and did minister unto them?
12 And it came to pass that Nephi remembered that this thing had not been written.
13 And it came to pass that Jesus commanded that it should be written; therefore it was written according as he commanded." (3 Nephi 23: 6-13)
"2 And he saith: These scriptures, which ye had not with you, the Father commanded that I should give unto you; for it was wisdom in him that they should be given unto future generations." (3 Nephi 26: 2)
And here's the commentary entitled: "Recording spiritual experiences can bless my family." :
"What impresses you about the Savior’s interaction with Nephi in 3 Nephi 23:6–13? If the Savior were to examine the records you have kept, what questions might He ask you? What important events or spiritual experiences should you record? Why is it important to do so? (see 3 Nephi 26:2)."
The Savior confirmed to Nephi whether Samuel did testify and prophesy according to His words about many saints who should rise from the dead, and should appear unto many and did minister unto them. After Nephi confirmed and said that they were all fulfilled, Jesus commanded that it should be written.
If the Savior were to examine the records I have kept, He might ask if I have written about the turning points in my life, my transformations, how I rise above my challenges, my mindset shifts especially from scarcity to abundance, my tendencies which go with my types of personality (two dominant types), my training and how they have been and are still shaping me, my failures, my wins, how putting God first has been blessing my life, how choosing to live the gospel (like choosing to be honest) brought challenges which are actually blessings in disguise, how the windows of heaven have been and are opening and pouring out blessings, and more.
There are a number of important events or spiritual experiences I should record. Among others, I should record how regularly visiting the temple (twice a month) and doing the temple work for my ancestors has been blessing my life as part of my resolve to put God first. It's also important that I should record the trial of faith I went through during the pandemic. It is important for me to record these things because they can be of great value to future generations just as the writings in the scriptures written anciently are of great value to those who are reading and studying them now.
