Doctrine and Covenants 111; also Matthew 6:19–21, 33

How has the Lord been ordering things for my good?

"Revelation given through Joseph Smith the Prophet, at Salem, Massachusetts, August 6, 1836. At this time the leaders of the Church were heavily in debt due to their labors in the ministry. Hearing that a large amount of money would be available to them in Salem, the Prophet, Sidney Rigdon, Hyrum Smith, and Oliver Cowdery traveled there from Kirtland, Ohio, to investigate this claim, along with preaching the gospel. The brethren transacted several items of Church business and did some preaching. When it became apparent that no money was to be forthcoming, they returned to Kirtland. Several of the factors prominent in the background are reflected in the wording of this revelation.

1–5, The Lord looks to the temporal needs of His servants; 6–11, He will deal mercifully with Zion and arrange all things for the good of His servants.

I, the Lord your God, am not displeased with your coming this journey, notwithstanding your follies.

I have much treasure in this city for you, for the benefit of Zion, and many people in this city, whom I will gather out in due time for the benefit of Zion, through your instrumentality.

Therefore, it is expedient that you should form acquaintance with men in this city, as you shall be led, and as it shall be given you.

And it shall come to pass in due time that I will give this city into your hands, that you shall have power over it, insomuch that they shall not discover your secret parts; and its wealth pertaining to gold and silver shall be yours.

Concern not yourselves about your debts, for I will give you power to pay them.

Concern not yourselves about Zion, for I will deal mercifully with her.

Tarry in this place, and in the regions round about;

And the place where it is my will that you should tarry, for the main, shall be signalized unto you by the peace and power of my Spirit, that shall flow unto you.

This place you may obtain by hire. And inquire diligently concerning the more ancient inhabitants and founders of this city;

10 For there are more treasures than one for you in this city.

11 Therefore, be ye as wise as serpents and yet without sin; and I will order all things for your good, as fast as ye are able to receive them. Amen." (Doctrine and Covenants 111)

"19 ¶ Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:

20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:

21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." (Matthew 6:19–21, 33)

And here's the commentary entitled: "The Lord can “order all things for [my] good.”

"By 1836, the Church had accumulated heavy debts in doing the Lord’s work. Joseph Smith and others worried about these debts and considered ways to pay them (see the section heading to Doctrine and Covenants 111).

As you read section 111, consider how the Lord’s words to Joseph may apply to you—and the things you worry about. For example, when have you felt God’s love “notwithstanding your follies” (verse 1)? How has the Lord helped you find unexpected “treasures” (verse 10)? What has He done to “order all things for your good” (verse 11)? What does the phrase “as fast as ye are able to receive them” teach you about Heavenly Father?

See also Matthew 6:19–21, 33; “More Treasures Than One,” in Revelations in Context, 229–34."

I have felt God's love "notwithstanding my follies" when He still blessed me with the means to make ends meet despite making mistakes with spending my money. He also blessed me with wisdom so that my financial mistakes became my teacher, helping me to make the same mistakes no more, as they empower me to make better decisions.

The Lord helped me find unexpected "treasures" as I decided to educate myself financially. I've learned the kind of skills I need to acquire in order to increase my income so I can achieve my financial goals. The Lord has been ordering things for my good by moving me to different teaching positions here at school and shaping me through the challenges I've been through. And now I'm exactly in the perfect position because aside from having a wonderful coordinator, I have the least teaching loads (only 12), and though I would substitute for other teachers, I still have plenty of time to use online to build my coaching business.

The phrase “as fast as ye are able to receive them” teaches me that Heavenly Father is blessing us according to the speed of the growth of our readiness to receive His blessings. His blessings come at the most appropriate time because that's the time when we are ready to receive, in His timing, knowing exactly what is expedient for us, His children. Our God, our perfect Father,
is in charge. He is ordering things for us to receive His blessings as fast as we are ready to receive them.
