Doctrine and Covenants 60: 2-4; 61: 1-2, 20, 36-38; 62: 1, 6; John 8: 1-11; Ether 2: 14-15

How have you been blessed by learning the important truths the Lord revealed about Himself through the scriptures?

"But with some I am not well pleased, for they will not open their mouths, but they hide the talent which I have given unto them, because of the fear of man. Wo unto such, for mine anger is kindled against them.

And it shall come to pass, if they are not more faithful unto me, it shall be taken away, even that which they have.

For I, the Lord, rule in the heavens above, and among the armies of the earth; and in the day when I shall make up my jewels, all men shall know what it is that bespeaketh the power of God." (Doctrine and Covenants 60: 2-4)

"Behold, and hearken unto the voice of him who has all power, who is from everlasting to everlasting, even Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end.

Behold, verily thus saith the Lord unto you, O ye elders of my church, who are assembled upon this spot, whose sins are now forgiven you, for I, the Lord, forgive sins, and am merciful unto those who confess their sins with humble hearts;

20 I, the Lord, was angry with you yesterday, but today mine anger is turned away.

36 And now, verily I say unto you, and what I say unto one I say unto all, be of good cheerlittle children; for I am in your midst, and I have not forsaken you;

37 And inasmuch as you have humbled yourselves before me, the blessings of the kingdom are yours.

38 Gird up your loins and be watchful and be sober, looking forth for the coming of the Son of Man, for he cometh in an hour you think not." (Doctrine and Covenants 61: 1-2, 20, 36-38)

"Behold, and hearken, O ye elders of my church, saith the Lord your God, even Jesus Christ, your advocate, who knoweth the weakness of man and how to succor them who are tempted.

Behold, I, the Lord, have brought you together that the promise might be fulfilled, that the faithful among you should be preserved and rejoice together in the land of Missouri. I, the Lord, promise the faithful and cannot lie." (Doctrine and Covenants 62: 1, 6)

"Jesus went unto the mount of Olives.

And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them.

And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst,

They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act.

Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou?

This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not.

So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.

And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground.

And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.

10 When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?

11 She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more." (John 8: 1-11)

"14 And it came to pass at the end of four years that the Lord came again unto the brother of Jared, and stood in a cloud and talked with him. And for the space of three hours did the Lord talk with the brother of Jared, and chastened him because he remembered not to call upon the name of the Lord.

15 And the brother of Jared repented of the evil which he had done, and did call upon the name of the Lord for his brethren who were with him. And the Lord said unto him: I will forgive thee and thy brethren of their sins; but thou shalt not sin any more, for ye shall remember that my Spirit will not always strive with man; wherefore, if ye will sin until ye are fully ripe ye shall be cut off from the presence of the Lord. And these are my thoughts upon the land which I shall give you for your inheritance; for it shall be a land choice above all other lands." (Ether 2: 14-15)

And here's the commentary entitled: "The scriptures teach of Jesus Christ." :

"As He instructed His missionaries, the Lord revealed important truths about Himself. Look for these truths in Doctrine and Covenants 60:2–461:1–2, 20, 36–3862:1, 6. What accounts from the scriptures illustrate the roles and attributes of the Savior that you found? (see, for example, John 8:1–11Ether 2:14–15)."

Here are the important truths the Lord revealed about Himself in Doctrine and Covenants 60:2–461:1–2, 20, 36–3862:1, 6:

  • He rules in the heavens above and among the armies of the earth.
  • He has all power.
  • He is Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end.
  • He forgives sins, and merciful unto those who confess their sins with humble hearts.
  • He is in our midst, and has not forsaken us.
  • No one knows the exact time of His second coming.

John 8:1–11 illustrates that He forgives sins, and He is merciful.

Ether 2:14–15 illustrates that He is in our midst, and has not forsaken us even when we forget Him at times.

Learning these important truths has been truly a great blessing for me.

I received the Lord's forgiveness myself and I continue to receive His forgiveness as I strive to repent. I'm so grateful for the opportunity to repent and be forgiven of my sins. I'm still human and have the tendency to make mistakes and sin even though I'm striving to always do what is right. So, I treasure the opportunity the Lord has given me to repent and be forgiven.

I'm so grateful to know that the Lord is in our midst, and has not forsaken us even when there are moments in our lives when we forget to turn to Him. He is there for us always. He has his hand in everything. He wants us to turn to Him so He is able to bless us always.
