How have you been blessed by the Lord's mercy yourself so far?
"20 And when the Jews heard these things they were angry with him; yea, even as with the prophets of old, whom they had cast out, and stoned, and slain; and they also sought his life, that they might take it away. But behold, I, Nephi, will show unto you that the tender mercies of the Lord are over all those whom he hath chosen, because of their faith, to make them mighty even unto the power of deliverance." (1 Nephi 1: 20)
"2 And I seal up these records, after I have spoken a few words by way of exhortation unto you.
3 Behold, I would exhort you that when ye shall read these things, if it be wisdom in God that ye should read them, that ye would remember how merciful the Lord hath been unto the children of men, from the creation of Adam even down until the time that ye shall receive these things, and ponder it in your hearts." (Moroni 10: 2-3)
And here's the beginning part of the introductory commentary to this week's reading assignment: December 16–22: “Come unto Christ, and Be Perfected in Him” Moroni 10 :
"The Book of Mormon opens with Nephi’s promise to show us that “the tender mercies of the Lord are over all those whom he hath chosen, because of their faith” (1 Nephi 1:20). The book closes with a parallel invitation from Moroni: “Remember how merciful the Lord hath been” (Moroni 10:2–3). What examples of the Lord’s mercy have you seen in the Book of Mormon? You might think of the merciful way God led Lehi’s family through the wilderness and across the great waters, the tender mercies He showed to Enos when his soul hungered for forgiveness, or the mercy He showed to Alma, a bitter enemy of the Church who became one of its fearless defenders. Or your thoughts might turn to the mercy the resurrected Savior showed to the people when He healed their sick and blessed their little children."
One example of the Lord's mercy I have seen in the Book of Mormon that really made a great impact on me is when Alma (the father of Alma, the younger)'s people's burdens became lighter for them to bear because the Lord strengthened them as they poured their hearts in prayer to the Lord quietly since they were prohibited to pray aloud while being in bondage under the leadership of Amulon.
I've been blessed by the Lord's mercy myself many times throughout my entire 51 years of existence. Recently I've been seeing the Lord's mercy getting extended to me more than ever before. I'm so grateful the Lord has continually been extending His arms of mercy to me. He does love me no matter what just as the evergreen tree stays fresh all year round no matter the weather, the Lord's love for me is always there as His mercy is always being extended to me evidently.
