Mosiah 5: 5-15; 7-9, Moroni 4-5

How does it feel to belong to the Savior?

And we are willing to enter into a covenant with our God to do his will, and to be obedient to his commandments in all things that he shall command us, all the remainder of our days, that we may not bring upon ourselves a never-ending torment, as has been spoken by the angel, that we may not drink out of the cup of the wrath of God.

And now, these are the words which king Benjamin desired of them; and therefore he said unto them: Ye have spoken the words that I desired; and the covenant which ye have made is a righteous covenant.

And now, because of the covenant which ye have made ye shall be called the children of Christ, his sons, and his daughters; for behold, this day he hath spiritually begotten you; for ye say that your hearts are changed through faith on his name; therefore, ye are born of him and have become his sons and his daughters.

And under this head ye are made free, and there is no other head whereby ye can be made free. There is no other name given whereby salvation cometh; therefore, I would that ye should take upon you the name of Christ, all you that have entered into the covenant with God that ye should be obedient unto the end of your lives.

And it shall come to pass that whosoever doeth this shall be found at the right hand of God, for he shall know the name by which he is called; for he shall be called by the name of Christ.

10 And now it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall not take upon him the name of Christ must be called by some other name; therefore, he findeth himself on the left hand of God.

11 And I would that ye should remember also, that this is the name that I said I should give unto you that never should be blotted out, except it be through transgression; therefore, take heed that ye do not transgress, that the name be not blotted out of your hearts.

12 I say unto you, I would that ye should remember to retain the name written always in your hearts, that ye are not found on the left hand of God, but that ye hear and know the voice by which ye shall be called, and also, the name by which he shall call you.

13 For how knoweth a man the master whom he has not served, and who is a stranger unto him, and is far from the thoughts and intents of his heart?

14 And again, doth a man take an ass which belongeth to his neighbor, and keep him? I say unto you, Nay; he will not even suffer that he shall feed among his flocks, but will drive him away, and cast him out. I say unto you, that even so shall it be among you if ye know not the name by which ye are called.

15 Therefore, I would that ye should be steadfast and immovable, always abounding in good works, that Christ, the Lord God Omnipotent, may seal you his, that you may be brought to heaven, that ye may have everlasting salvation and eternal life, through the wisdom, and power, and justice, and mercy of him who created all things, in heaven and in earth, who is God above all. Amen." (Mosiah 5: 5-15)

"And now, because of the covenant which ye have made ye shall be called the children of Christ, his sons, and his daughters; for behold, this day he hath spiritually begotten you; for ye say that your hearts are changed through faith on his name; therefore, ye are born of him and have become his sons and his daughters.

And under this head ye are made free, and there is no other head whereby ye can be made free. There is no other name given whereby salvation cometh; therefore, I would that ye should take upon you the name of Christ, all you that have entered into the covenant with God that ye should be obedient unto the end of your lives.

And it shall come to pass that whosoever doeth this shall be found at the right hand of God, for he shall know the name by which he is called; for he shall be called by the name of Christ." (Mosiah 5: 7-9)

"How elders and priests administer the sacramental bread is explained. About A.D. 401–21.

The amanner of their belders and priests administering the flesh and blood of Christ unto the church; and they administered it caccording to the commandments of Christ; wherefore we know the manner to be true; and the elder or priest did minister it—

And they did kneel down with the achurch, and pray to the Father in the name of Christ, saying:

O God, the Eternal Father, we ask thee in the name of thy Son, Jesus Christ, to bless and asanctify this bbread to the souls of all those who partake of it; that they may eat in cremembrance of the body of thy Son, and witness unto thee, O God, the Eternal Father, that they are willing to take upon them the dname of thy Son, and always remember him, and keep his commandments which he hath given them, that they may always have his eSpirit to be with them. Amen." Moroni 4)

"The mode of administering the sacramental wine is set forth. About A.D. 401–21.

The amanner of administering the wine—Behold, they took the cup, and said:

O God, the Eternal Father, we ask thee, in the name of thy Son, Jesus Christ, to bless and sanctify this awine to the souls of all those who drink of it, that they may do it in bremembrance of the cblood of thy Son, which was shed for them; that they may witness unto thee, O God, the Eternal Father, that they do always remember him, that they may have his dSpirit to be with them. Amen." (Moroni 5)

And here's the commentary entitled: "I take upon myself the name of Christ as I make covenants with Him." :

"What do you learn from Mosiah 5:7–9 about what it means to take upon yourself the name of Christ? What do the sacrament prayers (see Moroni 4–5) teach about this? How can you show that you “belong” to the Savior?

See also D. Todd Christofferson, “Why the Covenant Path,” Liahona, May 2021, 116–19."

When I enter into covenants with God, I am taking upon me the name of Christ. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the light". He is the only way--through Him, and only through His name, I can return to Heavenly Father's presence, on the condition of obedience.

The sacrament teaches that when we partake of the emblems of the sacrament, we are witnessing unto the Father that we are willing to take upon us the name of His Son. A general conference talk made this clear to me. We renew our baptismal covenant when we partake of the sacrament. We made the covenant to take upon us the name of Jesus Christ when we entered the waters of baptism. We witnessed unto the Father that we were willing to take upon us the name of His Son when we were baptized. And we are renewing this covenant every time we partake of the sacrament. And when we enter the temple and make more covenants with God right inside His house, that's where we actually take upon us the name of Jesus Christ. This is exactly the reason why we wear our temple garments as often as we possibly can after we have entered the temple and gone through the endowment session for the first time.

I can show that I belong to the Savior by loving Him and doing all I can, to the best of my ability, to be obedient to Him. He said, "If ye love me, keep my commandments." By obedience, I'm also able to honor His name, please Him, and make Him proud of me.  I'm so grateful for the blessing that I've been enjoying since I was a baby to belong (with my family) and grow up as a member of His church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I belong to the Savior and to His church. Nothing else can be more peaceful and joyful while navigating this earthly journey. I belong to Him now and making sure I continue to belong to Him forever.
